As Cardano (ADA) added more than $690 million in its market capitalization last week, it outshined the top-100 cryptocurrency assets by market cap.

Cardano price surged by about 11.52% over the past seven days, up from $0.1646 on July 27 to trading at around $0.1836 on August 3, 2026. As such, ADA price rallied to a seven-day peak of approximately $0.922, thereby closing its weekly candle at a resistance level established over the last two months.

Following its uptick last week, Cardano’s market capitalization added $693 million, hovering at roughly $6.7 billion at press time, up from $6.007 billion on July 27. During the past 24 hours, ADA price has dropped nearly 1.44%, with a trading volume of more than $544.9 million.

Other performers in the top 100 crypto assets by market cap, over the past seven days, include Monero (XMR), Uniswap (UNI), and BNB (BNB) with gains of 4.04%, 3.86%, and 2.05% respectively.

Why Cardano price outpaced other top crypto assets last week

The main reason why Cardano price outran the rest of the top cryptocurrencies last week was due to a notable demand from large whales. Over the past week, Cardano’s large whales, wallets holding between 100 million and 1 billion ADA, purchased more than 240 million ADA, valued at $44.06 million at the time of reporting, according to data from Santiment.

With this group of investors holding more than 14.3 billion ADA, they control 39.18% of the altcoin’s circulating supply. The rising demand for Cardano followed the network upgrade dubbed van Rossem, or the Van Rossem hard fork.

The update, which occurred on July 18, was Cardano’s first fully on-chain-governed hard fork. Essentially, it reduced smart-contract execution costs, added new Plutus functions, and marked a key step in the Voltaire governance era.

As such, Cardano bullish momentum is bolstered by rising demand amid the recent network upgrade.
