In a significant development, Bitmine, a prominent entity in the cryptocurrency sphere, has expanded its Ethereum portfolio by acquiring an additional 101,901 ETH in a single deal. This acquisition has elevated Bitmine’s total Ethereum reserves to an impressive 5,078,000 ETH, giving them sway over about 4.21% of the global circulating Ethereum supply. This transaction marks the company’s largest ETH purchase since December last year, thereby reinforcing their status as a leading institutional holder in the crypto market.
Increasing Institutional Commitment
The company’s assets have seen considerable growth, now totaling $13 billion in cryptocurrencies alone, complemented by substantial amounts in various investments and cash. Recent statistics from CryptoAppsy reveal that this latest Ethereum purchase was made at an average price of $2,369 per token. Prior to this, by early 2026, Bitmine held approximately 3.5% of Ethereum’s circulating supply, demonstrating a significant upswing in their holdings over recent months.
The pace of Bitmine’s Ethereum acquisitions surged during 2024. Starting the year with weekly purchases averaging 40,000 ETH, their acquisitions increased to 61,000 by March. The following month, Bitmine’s ETH reserves grew by 71,524, culminating in a record one-week purchase of 101,901 ETH as reported on April 27.
Tom Lee has noted Ethereum’s performance, surpassing the S&P 500 index amidst recent global tensions, signaling the end of a “mini crypto winter.” He highlighted ETH’s reliability as a safe haven during crises.
How Does MAVAN Boost Staking Profits?
MAVAN, Bitmine’s proprietary validator platform, is integral to maximizing returns from their extensive Ethereum reserves. Currently, 73% of Bitmine’s Ethereum, totaling 3,701,589 ETH, is staked through MAVAN, generating around $264 million annually. Full utilization of MAVAN for staking could potentially push their annual income to $363 million.
Initially designed for internal purposes, MAVAN will soon be available to other institutional players. The platform offers a slightly superior staking yield of 3.033% compared to the average rate.
Why is Bitmine Focused on Blockchain?
Bitmine’s strategic move to accumulate Ethereum is aligned with their vision of blockchain as a cornerstone of future financial infrastructure, with Ethereum being pivotal to asset tokenization. They see the network’s public blockchain as crucial for artificial intelligence applications, offering advantages not found in private networks.
Esteemed industry figures including Cathie Wood’s ARK Invest, Pantera Capital, and others, support Bitmine’s strategy. The company’s stocks rank as the 129th most traded in the market, with an $845 million average daily trading volume.
Bitmine’s strategic Ethereum acquisition plan and staking via MAVAN underscore the company’s comprehensive approach to navigating the evolving landscape of digital assets.
