USDT’s Auditing Initiative: A Bold Leap Forward by Tether

2 hours ago 1

Tether, the issuer of USDT and the world’s most extensive stablecoin network, is enhancing its financial transparency. They’ve enlisted KPMG to perform an independent audit as part of efforts to verify their $185 billion USDT supply. This initiative seeks to boost trust among global investors and regulatory bodies. Additionally, Tether is collaborating with PwC to prepare its internal systems for this audit by aligning them with international accounting standards.

How Is Tether Advancing Financial Practices?

USDT, a cornerstone in the stablecoin industry, recently surpassed a circulation of $185 billion. Tether announced the start of an audit with a leading accounting firm, signaling a historical move for regulation in the largely unregulated stablecoin market.

Simon McWilliams, Tether’s CFO, reassured stakeholders of the company’s adherence to strict audit standards. He affirmed that a thorough independent audit is imminent:

“Tether’s CFO Simon McWilliams conveyed that the company already upholds top-tier audit standards, and added that a comprehensive external audit would be published soon.”

Although Tether currently provides monthly attestations by BDO Italia, the forthcoming audit by KPMG is expected to deliver a detailed inspection. It will examine Tether’s financial ecosystem, offering an expansive overview of its assets, liabilities, controls, and reporting protocols.

In 2021, a New York Attorney General’s inquiry introduced scrutiny over Tether’s reserves. These legal challenges uncovered significant components of its reserves held at Deltec Bank in the Bahamas, including various short-term global bank notes. This history underscores the present demand for transparent audits.

What Are Tether’s Plans in the U.S. Market?

Tether’s audit process unfolds amid ambitious U.S. market expansion plans, including raising up to $20 billion at a $500 billion valuation. With evolving investor concerns over its valuation and regulatory exposure, Tether underscores the importance of comprehensive audits.

USDT, often regarded as a reserve currency in the crypto world, plays a crucial role in value transactions and is a significant buyer of U.S. Treasury bills. Tether’s stability and transparency are fundamental not just to its operations but to the broader financial ecosystem.

Following the enactment of the GENIUS Act by the U.S. Congress—establishing a regulatory stablecoin framework—Tether launched USAT, a dollar-pegged token compliant with new legal standards. This strategic step reflects Tether’s commitment to align with U.S. regulations and expand its presence in digital asset innovation.
